In simple words, all the efforts you or someone make on the internet to market their business is called digital marketing. Methods and behaviour of how people shop changed drastically. With the birth of eCommerce, offline markets have lost a significant proportion of effectiveness.

In today’s time, many businesses like your’s or mine use different channels like Google, social media, emails, and more for leveraging profits. Even many companies are focusing more on online marketing as it allows them to reach their ideal audience and drive more sales effectively. Digital Marketing is an umbrella term under which lies email marketing, social media marketing, advertising, graphics distribution, eCommerce, and much more.

Why Digital Marketing is Essential?

Example of a Billboard
Example of a Billboard

In my early years (2005-2015), I used to see many billboards on roads. But now, there are fewer billboards as compared to old times. Big brands used the method of billboard advertising as they are costly. Now when you go out on roads, you won’t see much of such billboards. It is not used as a primary advertising method in this digital age. I am not saying that it is not used as an advertising method, but the popularity has fallen.

In today’s time, Facebook and Google advertising makes more profits than any other media company in the traditional marketing world. The reason why people shifted to Online Advertising is that you have full control of your campaigns and who sees your ad.

In America, people spend around 11 hours on electronic devices in a day. So, you can think about how much power is in the hands of Digital platforms at this age. Now people earn and spend sitting in a room; you don’t actually need to go out for anything.

If I talk about the elements of Digital Marketing, then these will be the major players:

  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Search Engine Marketing
  • Content Marketing
  • Online Advertising
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Email Marketing

Television advertising is not something new, but it is a kind of Digital Marketing as it is being served through digital mediums. TV advertising is something which will never go away, and it is also one of the biggest advertising industries around the globe and will always be. But, TV Ads are losing its popularity, and people are shifting towards OTT platforms, so gradually television ads will lose their effectiveness and impressions. The only problem I encounter with TV ads is that they are not relevant most of the times to the person who is watching the ad.
